Local Community Back Groarty's Demands for a Speed Limit on the Coshquin Road.

3rd May 2016
Local Community Back Groarty's Demands for a Speed Limit on the Coshquin Road.

We take seriously the safety of our children and their families, so we are very grateful for the support of community workers in the Outer West Area who have taken action, in the form of '20 is plenty' signs along the Coshquin Road. 60 miles per hour on a small road outside a school is totally unacceptable. Promises from the Department of the Environment to do something positive about this have been broken. We were told over a year ago, at a meeting with Danny Kennedy, the Minister for the Environment, that we would be a priority location for the '20 is plenty scheme' which was to be implemented across Northern Ireland. We were told a few weeks later, by letter, that in fact we were to be a priority for the assessment process which would identify which locations would be suitable. We now understand that there is no intention to implement such a scheme. They may not care about the safety of children, but the people in the local community do.
